Rob & I had only been married a few months when I started dropping puppy hints! I totally wanted a dog. And call me silly, but I have wanted a cavalier since I saw Charlotte get one on Sex & the City (her cavalier's name is Elizabeth Taylor - how perfect is that?!). Anyways, Rob & I went to a party at one of our friend's homes & one of the couples there brought their cavalier. I emailed the girl the next day to find out where she got her dog - and I didn't waste much time getting in touch with the breeder & wearing Rob down on the lets get a dog issue. By april (less than 10 months after we got married) we got Kona. We fell in love instantly - and we fall a little more in love every day.
Kona girl will always be our first baby. I wouldn't have it any other way. She has taught us so much, cured so many bad days, given us so many puppy loves, and filled our hearts & lives with everything good. I tell her at least once a week that I wish I spoke puppy language so I could tell her how much I love her. I think she knows anyways - but it would be nice just to make sure! And every day before we leave the house - we tell her that we hope she has a good puppy day :) haha.
Rob & I have been talking about what we think she'll be like (and hope she'll be like) once baby boy gets here. I think that she's going to be a great big sister & guardian of baby H. I think that she'll love him just like she loves us & she'll want to protect him. After all, he will be her baby too. Luckily, Kona is such a laid back dog. Her top priorities in life are sitting on the couch & getting treats. I think as long as she's got a front row seat on the couch for all the baby shenanigans - she's going to be happy. Well, that and keeping her spot in the bed. I guess we'll find out how that one goes. Maybe I should look into getting a King size bed?
So - to complete this post, I'd like to share with you the awesomeness that is Kona - doing some of her favorite (and not so favorite) things.
(she almost blends in with the wood lol)
sleeping on a couch - yay!
sleeping on a couch! yay! i really love the position she's gotten herself in on this one.
sleeping on a couch while rob sleeps in the chair. Robby LOVES that kona takes naps & sleeps in with him.
um - sleeping on a couch. did i mention she's a pro at this.
2) - Helping mama with sewing. OMG Kona fancies herself the best sewing assistant ever! She is pretty cuty though. I can usually get half an hour of work done before she requests to be let off the couch (from her supervisory role) so she can come lay smack dab in the middle of whatever I've got laid out on the floor. It may make my sewing a little slower - but its so cute. I can't help but enjoy it.
3) SELECTIVELY beling outside. Now that we're counting the weeks until baby H arrives - I'm SO glad that Kona is a chill little dog who doesn't need to walk 5 miles a day to get all that energy out. Back when I was training for long races, I used to think that I would love to have a dog to run with me - like an Australian shephard or something. Don't get me wrong - it would be great for training purposes. But, this little dog will be great when our lifestyle changes drastically ... 2 seconds from now. But, she does have her moments when she LOVES to be outside.
like when it snows - or precipitates in any way really.
when its a beautiful sunny day
she loves to sit on the deck & sun bathe
and watch the birds and the squirrels
4) a non-favorite item. surgery & recovery. even though this is on the non-favorite list, she's unfortunately been through it twice in one year now. She was a real trooper.
kona on the way home from surgery - this was a very hard car ride for me ... emotionally.
and our godsend - doggy swimming!
this is my favorite swimmer - Amanda. she loves kona (i'm convinced) and she's great with her.
5) another least favorite - getting dressed up for the texas games :)
she kind of hates this. but its so cute :(
6) - this is one of my least favorite things ... when kona smells a mouse. She goes bonkers. At least we have a mouse detection system ... I guess.
she will stay here for what seems like hours. paw-ing at the door and SNIFF SNIFFF SNIFFFFFFING under the door where the mouse got in & out.
7) ok - back to favorite things! her people! kona loves her peoples & we all love her back. she's a little hug monster.
and 8) her specialty - making cute faces that I can't resist :)!!!
love
